If you are a parent, and have questions about our program, check out these frequently asked questions to assist you.
How does your program work?
As of right now, due to the current world health crisis, our program is primarily virtual and we meet with the girls over a video conferencing platform. The program runs year round, with bi-weekly meetings every other Saturday morning. On the second Saturday of each month, we try to have an in-person meeting so that the girls can interact and engage with each more through activities, discussion, etc.
What topics are covered during the program?
On average, we have about two sessions a month with the group, where our first session focuses on vocational skills, and the second focuses on social skills. Every session, we share with parents a complete list of all the topics of discussion for the upcoming session. All of our topics are centered around the social and emotional development of pre-adolescent-aged young girls, as well as topics relevant to their social-emotional development, and decision making.
What is the age limit for students to enroll?
Our program is designed for female pre-adolescent ages 10-13 years old.
What are your expectations of me and my child?
We ask for three things of every child and parent: Respect, Communication, and Active Participation. This program was created as a way to provide a safe space for young girls to grow and learn about themselves and the young women they soon will be. Please understand: This program is not a babysitting service. Our program leaders work diligently year-round for this program to be as fulfilling for each young girl we work with. We ask that each parent and child that enrolls shows our leaders, our other young girls in the program, and the program overall respect, be proactive when communicating with us about problems and concerns, as well as actively participate in every aspect of the program.
Do you offer one-on-one mentoring?
We do not offer a one-on-one component of our program at this time, but we are working on something like this for the future. Each of our program leaders makes themselves easily accessible for everyone a part of the program. So anytime any of them are having a problem, experiencing negative emotions or thoughts, or just want someone to talk to, they are welcome to always contact us.
How does she join in on the meetings?
Before every meeting, you and your child will receive the credentials to access the meeting for the week. If you ever do not receive the information, or can't access the meeting, please contact one of our program leaders for further assistance.
Can parents participate if they want?
Yes! We welcome parents to watch and participate in meetings in a volunteer capacity. We do ask that if you plan to attend that you let us know as soon as possible so that we can welcome you.
What does the application fee cover? Are there any additional costs?
The application fee for each child covers the cost of materials and supplies for the program. Virtually, this covers our monthly costs for the video conferencing program we use, as well as other virtual resources and tools we use to interact with the girls and conduct our meetings. At this time, there are no additional costs for the program. If any additional costs were to arise, we would definitely let you know as soon as possible.
What if my child is not able to attend a meeting?
If your child is not able to attend a meeting, we ask that you let us know at least 24-48 hours prior to the meeting she will not be able to attend. For anyone not able to attend, we forward any recorded parts of our session for that day for them to review.
